Pancake Party!

Pancakes and prayers!

St Leonard’s hosted a Pancake Party on Shrove Tuesday.  We learnt all about the beginning of Lent and had lots of fun with pancake races and, of course, eating them!  Huge thanks to the 30 children who came along, and to everyone involved in organising the party.

Happy New Year From St Leonard’s!

A busy, happy place!

St Leonard’s had lots of treats in store this Christmas, with a range of services to suit everyone.

Thank you to everyone who helped to organise these services, particularly David and the musicians, for whom Christmas is such a busy time!

Here are a few highlights.

Why not try something new this January? There is something for everyone. Come along to a service and find out more.  Details of service times are at the front of the Hill and Dale.

Family Remembrance Service at St Leonard’s Church

We were delighted to be joined so many families and Beavers at our Family Remembrance Service.  Ruth Chattel led the service beautifully, explaining the significance of Remembrance Sunday.  Farleigh Parish Playgroup and Beavers laid gorgeous wreaths that they had made.

Special thanks to our honoured guests, serving members of the armed forces, who brought home the importance of continuing to remember those who have served and have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defending us and our freedoms.

Ride and Stride

The sun was shining as ten intrepid cyclists set off from St Leonard’s on 9thSeptember 2023 for the annual Ride and Stride. We waved them off with coffee and croissant as they cycled to different churches across Hampshire to raise money for the Historic Churches Trust.  Congratulations to everyone who took part, an amazing achievement!

Advance notice

During Lent from March 3rd the Thursday Morning Bible Study Group will be looking at a book by Andrew Ollerton who wrote the brilliant Bible Course, that many of us enjoyed. It is called:

The Bible: A Story That Makes Sense Of Life

It approaches the Bible through 6 themes: Origins; Exodus; Exile; Messiah; Spirit and Hope and relates them to our lives. Andrew will make a weekly video which will guide our discussion.

(The book is available on Amazon and other websites.  We can get a group reduction if we order together.  Each person would need their own copy and would need to read a bit before each session for it to make most sense. The videos will be available on the web - so if you wanted to catch up on a missed session that would be easy to do.)

Here is a link to the explanation of the book; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrx9gNF2xig

We will begin on March 3rd (THURSDAYS) for the 6 weeks of Lent.

Meeting in Preston Candover at The Rectory at 9.15am. (If we are more than 9 people we will use Village Hall/ Church)

Everyone is welcome. Do please  e mail ruthchattell@btinternet.com if you would like to come/know more/join the group order to get  a book ready.

David will also be offering an evening Lent Course for the Benefice, as normal, based on different material. Details to be announced soon.

Notices for Sunday 25th July

1. Winchester diocese:-“You may be aware that there have been some issues in our diocese in the last few months concerning our Diocesan bishop, the Rt. Rev’d Tim Dakin. He “stood back” on 22 May because of an unprecedented “motion of no confidence” in his leadership from members of the diocesan synod, made up of clergy and laity from across the diocese.

On Friday 16th July he announced that he is retiring – and completely stepping back immediately from all duties, although technically in the post till February 2022.

We would ask your continued prayers for the current situation, so that the diocese will be able to pick things up rapidly and move forward to a change of culture and leadership in due course. Bishop of Southampton, Debbie Sellin, is to be lead bishop, Bp David Williams will return to duties on 1 September, and for the next few months the retired bp of Hereford, Richard Frith will be assisting in leadership.”
