12th December 2020

Benefice of Farleigh, Candover and Wield

Dear friends,

Christmas rapidly approaches, but with restrictions hitherto unknown in our lifetimes. But the best news is, Immanuel “God is with us.” Advent hymns invite His presence - “O Come, O Come Immanuel,“ “Hark the glad sound the Saviour comes,” “Lo He comes with clouds descending,” and what we need most are not presents, but His presence. And He is already in us if we have invited him, as not only guest but Lord as well.

Sunday 13th December is the 3rd Sunday in Advent when we think about John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus, sent to prepare the way for His coming, awakening the community that God is coming very close, so put our houses in order now.

The link for Stephen’s service online for tomorrow is: https://youtu.be/o54P48JAT50

David’s link will be on the website later.

Our Christmas Carol services begin with a Carol Service tomorrow at Northington in the churchyard (weather permitting) at 4.00 p.m.

We sent out details of all the Christmas services last week, so hope you will all be able to participate in some way.

Stephen is putting together a 9 Lessons and Carols service for next Sunday, and also next week the Virtual Nativity will be premiered as well – a compilation of clips from families around the villages – it will produce some humour we are sure!

We are very weather dependent for these Carol services, so come prepared, - they will be shorter than usual,  but at least we can sing outside the praise of our living Saviour; please do pray for God’s mercy to be much in evidence as we seek to honour Him.

With every blessing,

In His love,

David and Stephen
